Rev. Doreen and Greg Gibbons

Doreen was called to ministry after a 26 year corporate career as an IT Project Manager. Even though she had been involved in ministry from a young age, teaching Sunday school kids and ministering with adult women, it was quite a shock that God was calling her to leave the corporate world, go to Seminary and pursue full-time ministry. It’s a story of God’s faithfulness and provision for such a big change. She attended Bethel Seminary of the East (a satellite campus for Bethel Seminary) in Auburn, Massachusetts, graduating with an M.Div degree. After graduation Doreen was ordained by the Evangelical Association as an Associate Pastor at the First Congregational Church in Thomaston, Connecticut, the church where her Dad grew up. What a blessing to serve there and be involved in the community! She served there overseeing the Christian Education ministries of the church (Sunday school, Youth Groups, Small Groups), along with sharing responsibilities with the Senior Pastor (preaching, teaching, visiting). The skills she had learned in the corporate world were never wasted and used to help with administrative responsibilities (office admin, budgets). Being the only woman pastor in this community, Doreen was able to talk and pray with women from many different churches in the area.

As God was working on Doreen and Greg’s heart, He was preparing them for what was next. It was very clear He was calling them to move to North Carolina. Having lived in Connecticut their whole lives, this was a major change. They prayed for God’s direction and His plan, and God brought them to North Carolina with a job for Greg. They moved in September of 2014, once again a story of God’s faithfulness and provision. Although it was difficult to move from family and everything they had known!

Doreen served as an Associate Pastor of Children’s Ministry at a church in Mebane, North Carolina, for a year, where Greg had started a prayer ministry. Since then, for the last couple of years, she has been doing individual ministry with other women and young families, continuing to seek God for His plan for her ministry. Greg works as a Supplier Quality Engineer for a company in Greensboro. They continue to seek the Lord for ministry opportunities, individually and together. Doreen has a heart to minister to
women and Greg has a heart to see men grow in faith. Together they minister to couples.

Greg and Doreen have been married for 30 years. All of their family (siblings, cousins, aunts, nieces, nephews) lives in Connecticut, and Greg’s daughter and her husband have 2 young boys. They are grateful for the technology to be able to see the grandkids via Skype. Doreen enjoys reading, watching sports and being with people. Greg has been a runner for close to 40 years and enjoys reading and most outdoor activities. They both are UCONN Husky basketball fans and appreciate the technology that allows them the watch games in North Carolina.

Doreen and Greg write:

Prayer is an important part of our lives and clearly when seeking the Lord, He always answers and He has proven Himself faithful. We believe that it’s important, as we pray for others, to keep an ear to God’s heart and Holy Spirit. We have a heart and compassion for helping those who are involved in ministry – both men and women – to be a listening ear, someone to pray with and someone who cares for God’s people.
