Excerpts from a recent newsletter...
We are getting very busy at PastorCareSouthwest. We are continuing to establish relationships with pastors in Las Cruces, NM. We recently met with the pastors group in Deming NM. It is our prayer that we will soon present the PastorCare ministry to pastors in Tucson, AZ.
A few weeks ago, I shared one of my greatest concerns with our board of directors. My concern is the level of contact with pastors in the El Paso region. We started our work with PastorCarein El Paso nearly three years ago making a brief presentation to a local pastors group. We have had opportunity to share with this group and other groups a few times, but are seeing little response. A part of the problem, I think, is the lack of opportunity to keep in contact and build relationships with local pastors. We have attempted to see pastors one on one. While this has given opportunity for a time of fellowship with several pastor friends, it has produced little fruit for PastorCare in the way of referrals, encouragement or support.
The Board of Directors for PastorCare Southwest decided that we need to try a different approach. We are currently planning a get acquainted bar-b-q for April 27. Pastor Gary Wilcox of Restoration Fellowship and a member of the board has offered to host the event and provide the food. We will invite pastors and their spouses, professional care-givers (physicians, dentists, etc) and their spouses, and local Christian business people. Leading up to the bar-b-q, we are airing a series of 30 second ads on our local Christian radio station. The purpose for the ads is first, name recognition for PastorCare Southwest, and as we get closer to the event, there will be an invitation to the bar-b-q.
We need your help with this project. First, we need your prayers for every part of the planning and preparation. Pastor Randy Smith of Vista Hills Church and a board member is writing the series of ads along with the staff of KELP. Pray for them and for the ads to reach the right people. We also need your prayer and financial support for the ad campaign. The radio station is giving us a very good price on the ads. The first ad started running March 5. The total cost will be between $1,200 and $1,500. If you feel led by God to make a special donation for this expense, please make a notation on your check to that effect. If you are not able to make a donation, that is fine. We try to never emphasize finances, but you realize it takes money to do anything worth while. Please pray with us about this need. |
We have already begun receiving phone calls in response to our advertising campaign. Most of these call have come from church members concerned about their pastor. Our first ad featured two women talking.
One woman was expressing concern for her pastor. He works so hard to minister to others while needing help himself. I wish there was something I could do to help him. Second woman responds, There is something you can do. Call PastorCare at 633-9888. Let them help your church help your pastor.
We are praying God will open many doors to helping hurting pastors in the El Paso area through these ads.
One of my favorite books in the Bible is Philippians. The apostle Paul enjoyed a wonderfully close relationship with the believers in this city.
I thank my God every time I remember you . In all my prayers for you I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. Phil 1:3-5.
In chapter four, he thanks them again for their encouragement and financial partnership. (Phil. 4:10) I often feel that I do not express to you enough my deep appreciation for your continued prayer and financial support. We know every prayer offered on our behalf and every gift given to help this ministry to pastors is an act of loving obedience to the Lord. We believe it is an expression of your love for us and a desire to participate in the ministry God has entrusted to us. He is our provider and guide. We seek open doors for ministry allowing Him to lead and provide. Praying For You,
Burney & Sandy Heah
