About PastorCare

Founded in 1995, PastorCare, The National Clergy Support Network, was established to provide a confidential, Christ-centered ministry for pastors and their spouses in need or distress. With the goal of helping those who are called to ministry, stay in ministry, Dr. Moore established PastorCare to provide services through a support network of professional caregivers. PastorCare does not charge for services. PastorCare is a purely faith-based, non-profit ministry supported by gifts, donations, and a volunteer network of caregivers and service providers. Retired pastors, missionaries, and volunteer laypersons encourage and assist pastors and their spouses who contact PastorCare. The goal is to meet the need and revitalize God's shepherds to continue the call to serve God's flock.

PastorCare is an ever expanding network of individuals who share a common heart for helping hurting pastors and their families. Our desire is to serve as a support network for hurting pastors providing practical assistance and ongoing support. PastorCare recognizes that pastors are in special roles as caregivers while often needing care themselves. PastorCare provides help that is practical, personal, and private (confidential).

Our Theme Verse

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God."
(II Corinthians 1:3-4)

Our Mission Statement

Wherever a pastor lives and serves, there will be people called by God
ready to offer a variety of practical supports to undergird the pastor and family.

Our History

It was ten years ago that Dr. Filbert Moore founded this one of a kind ministry to hurting pastors and their spouses. Dr. Moore had just gone through an emotional resignation from a pastorate, followed by a painful family situation, and was feeling wounded and broken. As he wrestled with depression one night he received a phone call from the leader of a local ministry in his home town, a ministry which existed to help hurting pastors. The man on the other end of the line, the director of that ministry, was Dr. Warren Thuston. Dr. Thuston ministered to him and over time brought him back to health both physically and emotionally. Dr. Moore would later reflect on this saying that he learned much of what pastor care would become from the care he received from this kind man.

Dr. Thuston later invited Dr. Moore to join the ministry at Biblical Wellness where he would serve on staff from 1992 til1995. It was there, while serving on the staff of Biblical Wellness, that Dr. Moore began to think about what a ministry to hurting pastors and their spouses might look like. In early 1995 Dr. Moore put the word out to see if others around the country might share his burden and support such a ministry. On August 7, 1995 on the campus of Peace College in Raleigh, NC, the first meeting was held to discuss the forming of PastorCare. 54 people showed up for that meeting. They came from 10 different states. On the third day of the symposium, before they departed, they broke up into small groups to brainstorm about what the ministry of PastorCare would look like and later cane back together to share with the larger group. As those present began to share the ideas that were generated out of their small group discussions, Dr. Moore recounts how the members of the advisory team began to cry at the prospects of such a ministry to hurting pastors. And so the ministry of PastorCare began. That was ten years ago. And from those humble beginnings on the campus of Peace College in Raleigh, North Carolina, the ministry of PastorCare has grown into a national ministry based in Raleigh, North Carolina, with a beautiful office suite, a competent staff, and dedicated regional coordinators in some eight different parts of the country. Every day at our home office and at regional sites around the country, PastorCare receives calls from pastors and their spouses. They contact us by telephone, by mail, and through our website. They contact us from just about every denomination imaginable and from non-denominational churches. They contact us with needs that are both physical and spiritual. It may be a pastor in need of medical attention or sound legal advice. Sometimes it is a pastor looking for a Christian counselor or a mentor or a prayer partner. Often it is a pastor on the verge of burn out just needing to get away for a day or two of spiritual retreat.

Whatever the need, our trained phone operators listen attentively, pray fervently, and then we go to work trying to find someone in that persons region of the country who can help meet their need. From our vast network of care givers we are often able to find them the help that they need within a few days. A lot has changed over the years at PastorCare, but one thing remains the same, and that is our mission statement. It is as clear and concise as it was when it was first penned 10 years ago; Wherever a pastor lives and serves, there will be people called by God ready to offer a variety of practical supports to under gird the pastor and family.
